I was asked by Sharon Engelstein to have a Valentine's Day-inspired show at her Houston gallery, Front. I made a playlist of two hundred love songs and put myself into a weird romantic trance. I ended up with a lot of pink, a lot of naked people, a troubling amount of guts and dissected bodies. But some of it is still pretty sweet, I think. Maybe.
Good old-fashioned romance, right? So, here's a review someone wrote. Pretty good! I like when she says "Durand uses pretty simple materials for his drawings -- crayons, pastels, markers, pencil and pen." I didn't use any of these materials, so now I feel like I've created something mysterious... It's actually 100% airbrush on leather. Wait, is that true?
I'll maybe post more of the images once the show is over. I gotta give you a reason to want to go see it in person, right? In the meantime, let's listen to some songs...
Whew! That was great... I guess I probably prefer the album version of "Lost in Your Eyes", but this live one is still really good. And, boy, Bob Welch sure looks like a creep on his album cover. "Sentimental Lady", indeed. Makes me wonder about that guy. Not really. I never think about that guy. Boz Scaggs on the other hand, that froggy little voice creeps into my brain pretty much every day. And I know that he's the genuine article. No sexy babe on his album cover. Just Boz on a bench.
